Properties

Within the scope of workshops, different material patterns were characterized by sensors and a superior semantic differential was created.

The name "White Wood" reflects and interprets the properties of the material in a symbolic way and is amongst others part of the communication strategy.

Scientific practice, on the other hand, requires a name that rewrites the properties and manufacturing characteristics of the material. The scientific side therefore calls the material "Delignified and Densified Cellulose Bulk Material".

The new wood-based material created by delignification and densification triples the tensile strength and stiffness of the natural product compared to the same volume. Compared to other natural fiber composites such as flax or sisal, specific tensile properties are also higher.
Further advantages are the ability to form in the wet state and the scalable processing. Wood's own characteristics, such as the load-bearing, longitudinal cellulotic structure, are transferred to the new concept and adopted. Three-dimensional shapes with high strengths can be produced. Mechanisms of the natural raw material, such as the tough fibrous fracture, remain. The property of water transport in the wood is abolished by the process of compaction. In addition, the material is UV-stable due to the removal of lignin. By reducing the number of components, the material becomes lighter.
